The Battle of Berlin, the end of World War II. Three Soviets arrive in a sand-tan German Kubelwagen, an angular convertible jeep without a grille, with a simple, sloping hood and a spare tire in an off-road tire. It has two round lights, one per fender. A sand-colored linen roof is rolled up on the back. There are three Soviets: Nikolai Krachenko – the lead one, pale-faced, young, slim, with blue eyes and short, untidy dark brown hair. He wears an olive-colored Soviet bechatka jacket and a dark gray Soviet ushanka (fur earflap) with a red star emblem. He is distrustful but determined. The second is Boris Zhuchkov – portly, more muscular, with a strong jaw, light stubble, also wearing an olive-colored bechatka and an ushanka with a red star, also wearing rubber boots, confident, and courageous. Sergei Natashkov – skinny, tall, very pale, with bags under his eyes, afraid of everything, trembling with fear, dressed like his predecessors: an olive-colored bechatka and a gray ushanka with a red star. They arrive in a Kubelwagen and park it, the lights go out, the engine stops. They get out, open the massive doors, but remain silent. They emerge with wooden PPSH submachine guns, with a black drum magazine. They carefully place their weapons on the vehicle seats and move on. Suddenly, Nikolai says, "Quiet, Comrades! I hear a tank! Take cover!" The heavy, massive metal sound of the tank's tracks and the roar of its engine can be heard in the distance. They quickly take cover quietly behind the rubble and destroyed walls, while Sergei panics, hiding behind the Kubelwagen, trembling, begging with a wavering voice for them to escape. To this, Boris whispers that they must be quiet, otherwise he will be the first to go to the front. Sergei falls silent. Suddenly, from around the corner of a ruined Berlin building in ruins, a dark green Soviet T-34 tank with a red star and the white number 234 on the turret emerges. In the turret sits a Soviet tankman in a khaki tank uniform and a tank headset. He waves his arms and shouts, "WE PEACEFUL COMRADES!" At which Boris Sergei and Nikolai start cheering, waving their arms and shouting, "For the great Soviet Union!" and "Soviet Union!" The tank turns off its engine, parks, and the tankman comes out of the turret with two other tankmen and says, "Comrades, we have received information that an enemy tank is approaching." "You have headsets, grab them!" Then three tankmen give them headsets. Then they get into the Kubelwagen and drive away. Nikolai says, "Put on your headphones! Get ready!" Suddenly, a shot of a gray, angular German Panzer tank pulling out from around the corner. A dramatic, terrifying scene unfolds as the German tank approaches, the ground trembles, Sergei panics and wants to flee, but Boris tells him that if he doesn't calm down, he'll leave him outside the tank, alone with the Panzer!
