Kennels on both sides. Fluorescent lighting. Clear wall text on the kennel reads: “BULL DOG.” Phone held at chest height by someone standing a few steps back. A large Great Dane, white with light patches, stands quietly inside the kennel. Head low. Tail moving slowly. He does not bark. A young couple walks into frame. The girl in short denim shorts and a loose top steps closer to the kennel door. The boy stays slightly behind her. The girl takes a small key from her hand and unlocks the kennel gate. Metal latch sound is heard clearly. She pulls the gate open. There is a short pause. The Great Dane slowly walks out from the kennel toward her. Heavy but calm steps. He looks only at her. As he reaches her, he lifts his front paws gently onto her arms. She loses balance slightly and sits down on the floor, holding him tightly around the neck. She starts crying openly, face pressed into his fur. The boy kneels beside them and places his hand softly on the dog’s back. The Great Dane pushes his large head into the girl’s chest and becomes still. Only shelter sounds. No music. End quietly.
