April 1918. Night has fallen over the shattered front. Between the opposing trenches lies No Man’s Land — a field of mud, wire, and broken bodies. The rain never stops. A small patrol of adult anthropomorphic rabbit soldiers crawls forward in silence. Their fur is soaked, heavy with mud. Their long ears stay low, pressed against their helmets to avoid detection. Every movement risks death. Flares rise suddenly into the sky. White light freezes the landscape. Craters, corpses, shattered equipment — all exposed. The rabbits stop breathing. Time stands still. A wounded anthropomorphic rabbit soldier groans somewhere in the darkness. Sergeant Morel signals forward. Instinct screams to flee, but duty pushes them on. Machine-gun fire erupts. Mud explodes. One rabbit falls, unmoving. The others drag the wounded back toward the trench, claws slipping in the sludge. When they finally reach cover, dawn is still far away. No victory.
